Monologue Matchup 2006

Now in its 14th year, Monologue Matchup is one of Chicago theater's best venues for actor's looking to strut their stuff and perform before an audience and a panel of distinguished judges from all over the Chicago area. Enjoy some fine vittles. And compete for great prizes.

This year's competition was held on Monday, October 30th, in a very full SSP Theater.

34 actors of all shapes, sizes, ages, colors, ethnicities, talents and temperaments participated.

From the greenest rookie to the most seasoned veteran, Equity, Sag, off loop, off off loop, and way way way off loop came and gave it their all. Chicago theater at its finest was in the house.

We had one contestant, Mr. Jordon Zamansky, age 10, who performed as well as many 20+ year olds we have seen. We are sure we will see more of this talented and fearless young man. Could you have done this at 10?

Another contestant, veteran Chicago actor Fred Schutz, although a little older than Jordon :-), did impress us all by bench pressing all the judges at once. Way to go Fred. Good to see you again.

And the winner, Cynthia White, a virtual acting rookie, not only showed great raw talent, but made super choices with her selection of pieces and wowed not only the judges but the crowd too. Looking forward to a lot more from her.

This year's talented judging corps consisted of :

John Ragir    Live Bait
Phillip Edward Van Lear    Independent director
Chuck Smith    Goodman Theater
Jimmy McDermott;   Writer's Theatre
Alyson Roux    Steppenwolf Theater
Chuck Zis    SSP
Sabrina Lloyd    GroundUp Theatre
June Podagrosi    Child's Play Touring Theatre

Our deepest thanks to the judges, for your time and efforts.
